INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
If you are in a hurry to install the data base because it is clear
weather, close to New Moon and you want to get some data from the data base; or
you just don't like to read the documentation then read only the next
paragraph. If it is bad weather and close to New Moon, or near Full Moon, or
you want to take your time then read all of the paragraphs.
For a quick installation move the files install.bat and arce.com from
SAC50A.ARC to a work directory and type the following command from this work
directory.
INSTALL [input_path] [output_path]
Where [input_path] and [output_path] both take the form [d:][path] and
represent existing paths for the input and output files respectively. I
suggest you create new directories to do this installation procedure.
The path for [input_path] should the the location of the archive files
SAC50A.ARC thru SAC50E.ARC and can be <a:>. If a floppy drive isn't being used
then don't forget the \'s where appropriate. The files in this directory will
not be deleted by the install program.
The path for [output_path] should be where the ASCII text files contained
in the archive files will be stored. If you are installing on a hard drive
then all of the ASCII text files will be combined into one and named SAC50.TXT.
Note, also, that none of the files are deleted during the install process. You
might want to keep the 4 text files, SAC50B.TXT thru SAC50E.TXT, or just the
one large one and delete the other(s).
If [input_path] is <a:> and [output_path] is <b:> then be sure each of the
archive files is on a separate diskette. Since we don't have access to a dual
floppy drive system it hasn't been as thoroughly tested as we would like. We
hope it will suit your needs.
The arce.com file, which unarchives the files in this system, are the
product of Vernon D. Buerg; 456 Lakeshire Dr.; Daly City, CA 94015. He has an
excellent set of utilities. I suggest you might contact him for more
information. Permission is granted to use this program "provided no
remuneration of any kind is received in exchange and distribution is without
ANY modifications to the contents of the file!" In order for this program,
arce.com, to work the arhive files were compressed using an older compression
algorithm. It is supported by the programs produced by Phil Katz.
Later releases of the data base will be in the increasing popular ZIP
format.
I hope you find the installation procedure simple and easy to use.
